Founders Michael Menghini M.Sc and Scott Smith M.Sc own and operate Aquatic Features, Inc.
Originally meeting over 18 years ago while working for the National Marine Fisheries Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as biologists on fishing vessels in the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska, the two found out quickly that they shared a hard work ethic as well as a belief in the preservation of the natural environment.
Native Austinite Scott Smith graduated with a B.S. degree in Aquaculture from Texas A&M University. Smith would later become a Peace Corps volunteer teaching indigenous peoples how to raise Tilapia (a food fish) in both the Philippines and Africa. Later Smith would go on to achieve a Masters degree from Auburn University in Aquaculture and work building aquaculture facilities in such diverse places as Laos, Belize, Honduras, and Virginia.
Michael Menghini graduated from Wittenberg University with a B.A. degree in both Biology and English Literature. He would later work as a biologist at the University of California at Berkeley and then pursue a Masters degree in Fisheries Science and Aquaculture at Humboldt State University. Michael spent the last years previous to starting Aquatic Features Inc. raising rainbow and cutthroat trout, salmon, and tilapia, and doing fisheries consulting.
Both Smith and Menghini decided in 2000 that they were weary from living in remote locations raising various fish species. They wondered how it would be possible to settle in the Austin area, be able to utilize their scientific backgrounds in Fisheries science, and be able to remain artistically creative.
The result is Aquatic Features, Inc.
